Ten Activities to Support Your Nervous System
Did you know that “60% to 80% of primary care doctor visits are related to stress, yet only 3% of patients receive stress management help”(1)?
The nervous system is divided into two systems- parasympathetic and sympathetic. The parasympathetic nervous system is often referred to as the "rest and digest" system, because it helps the body relax and conserve energy.
The benefits of being in a parasympathetic state are numerous! This state helps to lower your heart rate, blood pressure, and stress levels, while also aiding in digestion and relaxation. Taking time to activate your parasympathetic nervous system can positively influence your overall physical and mental well-being.
There are many ways to activate the Parasympathetic Nervous System, both passive and active, depending on your energy levels and time available.
Passive Ways to Activate the PNS
Grounding
Listening to Music
Watching the Sunrise/Sunset
Watching a Movie
Taking an Epsom Salt Bath
Active Ways to Activate the PNS
Hiking
Dancing
Doing Yoga
Playing an Instrument
Sauna Therapy
Relaxation tools like these have a learning curve just as any other new skill- it becomes easier and effective the more you practice. For additional support in this area, click here to book time with me one-on-one.
